DNAD | Chosen Brief | Monotype

At first I picked the WWF brief because I initially wanted to create a video. This brief allowed that with its freedom of asking for a campaign to help save the planet. But after a disccusion with other people who want to do it, and some brief initial research it seems really difficult to be able to produce something that hasn't been done before. All the videos are pretty much the same and it seems if someone hasn't done anything that is different in 40 odd years how can something be created now that could work. It seemed like if I did this brief I would just end up creating something thats pretty much the same. Monotype was the other brief i was considering, and I've decided Id rather do this brief. It seems like a really fun brief which can have a wide range of different imagination of ideas. Straight away I picture in my mind when reading a brief a visual image of what I could produce without even  researching anything, I picture picking a film director like michael bay and creating typography out of symbolic graphics from his films such as, transformers, texas chainsaw massacre. I really want to create something visually awesome looking and this brief allows that.

The Brief

"Create a new visual language for film advertising. One that relies on and relishes words, instead of falling back on the usual photographic imagery. Take a director of your choice and use the power of type to promote a retrospective screening of their films. Film tells us stories, transports us and stirs our emotions. And so can type. Show that without images, type alone can create an equally, if not more compelling visual expression of your chosen director’s films. One that’s difficult to ignore and will inspire people to go and see them. Create something that makes film fans, old and new, not want to miss this event."
